Nationalist MEP David Casa visited the police headquarters in Floriana to see the preparations made and how the country is coping following entry into the Schengen zone.

Mr Casa, who was met and shown around by Police Commissioner John Rizzo, said membership of the Schengen area was possible only through EU membership. He encouraged the force to make use of funds being made available through the EU.

Mr Rizzo noted that the force had already benefitted from substantial sums of money through seven grants for different projects and it was continuously on the look-out for new funding opportunities. Eventually, the force should have an office set up specifically to seek funding sources, he added.
