Reading Joseph Farrugia's letter of April 30, I just could not believe the narrow mindedness of trying to justify Dom Mintoff's association with tyrants like Mao, Gaddafi, Kim-il-Sung and Ceacescu.
The head of states mentioned by Mr Farrugia that Mr Mintoff made friends with were not leaders of their country but rulers of places where the word democracy never existed and the same thing was happening here. Mr Mintoff was making friends with these rulers from hell while the rest of Europe was prospering like never before.
Had Mr Mintoff never been elected, Malta would have become an EU member state during his 16 years of wasted time instead of making Malta the joke of Europe.
The situation is much better now with the national debt running into €3.2 billion and having to pay more for electricity and fuel and God knows what else with the high cost of living.
We may be paying more but we live in a free EU country.
