Infrastructure and Transport Minister Austin Gatt will have his work cut out given the state of the roads all over the island (Red Lights For Inferior Road Repairs, April 29) but any initiative to ensure that repairs are carried out properly, either on behalf of contractors or any of the public services, is to be welcomed.

Perhaps in the spirit of this new initiative he will see to it that Rudolph Street in Sliema, which was beautifully resurfaced a few years ago, has the necessary repairs carried out. Whether electricity, water or some other service was responsible for all the roadworks that have not been filled in - every street corner has a deep pothole - someone is accountable and should be made to repair the road to its previous state immediately.
