Top stayer Yeats, trained by Aidan O'Brien and ridden by Johnny Murtagh, entered the record books yesterday after winning the Ascot Gold Cup for the third year in a row. Yeats was emulating Sagaro, the only other horse to have achieved the feat when victorious three times between 1975-1977 with Lester Piggott on board.

Kenteris, the 200m champion in 2000, and Thanou, who finished second in the 100 at the same Sydney Games, are charged with giving false statements to police after missing doping tests.
