Two sisters were yesterday charged with defrauding Montaldo Insurance Ltd of €3,495 (Lm1,500).

Nadia Rapinett, 30, from Gżira and Elaine Rapinett, 23, from St Paul's Bay were charged with defrauding the company on December 2, 2006.

The sisters were also charged with cashing one of the three stolen cheques.

Elaine Rapinett alone was charged with stealing the three cheques from the insurance company while Nadia Rapinett alone was charged with handling stolen property and using it to commit fraud.

Police Inspector Angelo Gafa' also charged Elaine Rapinett with committing a crime within the operative period of a conditional discharge and two suspended sentences.

Lawyers Franco Debono and Charmaine Cherrett appeared for the women.
