Pullicino meets Energy Commissioner

Resources Minister George Pullicino was in Brussels yesterday for an introductory meeting with European Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs.

The meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the European Commission, follows Mr Pullicino's appointment as minister responsible for the energy sector.

The current problems with the international surge in fuel prices, Malta's plans for alternative energy sources and biofuels were on the agenda. Malta raised the current ongoing negotiations on a Commission proposal for a new directive concerning common rules for internal electricity markets in the EU.

During the meeting, Mr Pullicino was accompanied by Malta's Permanent Representative to the EU, Richard Cachia Caruana.
