In the four years I have been living in Żabbar, I only have to complain about one issue - the all too frequent electrical power cuts.

On numerous occasions, I have contacted the ever-courteous and helpful Customer Care section at Enemalta and they have always come up with some explanation or other - be it high tension faults, servicing to a seemingly inadequate sub-station, etc.

During April, we have had two power cuts - one on the 2nd, the other on the 17th, which I believe is more than enough.

I am tired acting like some 21st century Florence Nightingale walking around with an emergency lamp, not to mention the damage resulting from these power cuts to the appliances.

One may not always be at home during a power cut in order to go around switching off the fridge, freezer, microwave, etc to try to spare them any power surge.

Moreover, the circuit-breaker sometimes trips with the surge of the power returning, so, if one is not at home, it's goodbye to your dinner...

Just to underline how serious the problem is, I recently went to a sports shop to enquire about a treadmill.

The salesperson unequivocally warned me that in the areas of Żabbar and Marsascala, the equipment has been having problems due to inconsistent power supply, both because of power cuts and fluctuations (which Enemalta states that are within the limit).

As I have said, Enemalta staff have always been courteous and prompt in taking action. However, I think that in Żabbar (tal-Ħofra area) there is some serious problem that is not being tackled properly and seriously enough.

Considering the amount of money we put in our electricity bills, I find that the service is lacking and would dearly hope that the matter is resolved soon.
