Two accused of defrauding insurance firm

Two sisters were today charged with defrauding Montaldo Insurance Limited of €3,495 (Lm1, 500).

Nadia Rapinett, 30 from Gżira and Elaine Rapinett, 23 from St. Paul’s Bay, were charged with defrauding the insurance company on December 2, 2006 by allegedly cashing a stolen cheque.

Elaine Rapinett was alone charged with stealing three cheques from the insurance company while Nadia Rapinett alone was charged with handling stolen property.

Police Inspector Angelo Gafa also charged the younger of the sisters with committing a crime within the operative time of a conditional discharge and two suspended sentences.

Lawyers Franco Debono and Charmaine Cherrett appeared for the women.
