Depiro set up Hibs showdown

In the final match from Phase Two of the women's basketball championship, Depiro had the better of Luxol to book a place in the final play-off where they face rivals and current champions Hibs Medsea.

In other championship matches, Sliema Wanderers went top of the Relegation Pool following their win over St James Hospital as Kerygma left SN Suns still searching for their first victory.

Depiro relied on their experience to overcome a tense Luxol who, in the most crucial part of the season, failed to produce their best form.

Depiro had the better start to open an 8-2 lead before Luxol recovered to reduce the gap to one point, 13-12, but faltered in the last minutes before half-time to trail 30-19.

Both teams were erratic in their shooting but in the last minutes of the third quarter Depiro surged to a 42-24 lead with Luxol's Francesca Psaila Savona being fouled out.

Luxol lost their way and committed unnecessary fouls that led to four other players, Mandy Sciortino, Emma Moore, Beverlee Zammit and Justine Mangion, being fouled out. At this stage Depiro were in a position to administer their lead and cruise to victory.

Sliema Wanderers finished their commitments with a good victory over St James Hospital.

After potting the opening 11 points, Sliema were never troubled by their opponents and led 38-19 at half-time. With St James failing to improve, Sliema went on to finish 75-57 winners.

As expected, Kerygma disposed of lowly SN Suns, winning 50-23.
