Young swordfish are also a common occurrence at fishmongers and fish hawkers. This is a pity because these fish should be given a chance to grow to full size and reproduce thereby guaranteeing reproduction of the species and some degree of sustainability of the fishing industry. Furthermore, when will Maltese fishermen understand that closed seasons for certain types of species, as is a common practice in the North Adriatic, are in the interest of their own livilhood? This gives the fish stocks some respite and an opportunity to replenish the stocks.

The increases mentioned in the article are incredulous. It is common knowledge that most of the fish caught by Maltese fishermen is sold to Sicilian restaurateurs. Something must have happened in the period mentioned that impeded these sales. Moreover, does this also mean that Maltese fishermen landed more tuna than allowed EU quotas?
