Now that we have a straight road over St Julians valley, how about tearing up the garden in the middle of one of Malta's busiest roads. Yes, that's right, the beautiful oasis near the old gas tanks may be nice to look at, may be useful in giving us the exact Euro time, but believe me it's in the wrong place and at the wrong time.
The romantic palm trees and perfect lawn are not what you need when driving to or from work. What you need is a green light that says hurry up and a red light that says stop, other people are busy and going to work too! What you do not need are hundreds of cars nudging inch by inch to make their way through your car, and you trying to avoid hitting or being hit by them.
The damage to your car is just one of your problems, the damage to your time schedule and your nerves are probably worse.
As soon as you get a policeman playing stop and go with all the traffic then things start moving efficiently.
So why is there an obstacle where it is not needed? Even if there will be a flyover in time, the roundabout garden will have to go just the same. So why wait?
While you are at it please put a traffic light in Mrabat Street leading to Birkirkara Road (near the old Belmont Hotel).
The street permits only one-way traffic and all that is required is for a light that forces drivers to have some manners. Wait for 30 seconds, let the other cars pass, and then you have 30 seconds to make your way through. This solution is so simple that it begs for immediate implementation.
