Unemployment drops by 865 in March

Unemployment dropped by 865 persons last month when compared to March 2007, the NSO said today.

The registered jobless last month reached 6,168, of whom 5,438 were in Malta and 730 in Gozo.

In the twelve months to March 2008, Malta experienced a decline in unemployment, whereas Gozo saw an increase of 14.

In the 12 months to March 2008, the duration of unemployment diminished. Among men, occupations related to elementary duties and plant and machine operations were the most commonly sought, whereas women tended to seek jobs which were clerical or service-oriented.
