Ronald G. Sultana, director of the University's Euro-Mediterranean Centre for Educational Research (EMCER), and a member of the Department of Education Studies of the Faculty of Education, has recently published a monograph on education entitled The Girls' Education Initiative in Egypt.

The publication documents how several governmental and non-governmental organisations in Egypt worked together to improve educational access for girls in remote areas in a number of governorates.
The study, the first in a series published by UNICEF in its Learning Series, sets out to provide practical inspiration to other developing countries where full access to schooling for girls is still a challenge.
EMCER specialises in comparative education studies in the Mediterranean region, publishes the Mediterranean Journal of Educational Studies, and runs a Masters course in Euro-Mediterranean Comparative Education Studies.
