The Young Women's Christian Association (Malta) paid a courtesy visit to Maria Isabel Vicandi Plaza, Ambassador of Spain.
YWCA president Mary J. Jones gave a brief explanation regarding the movement's work: "I feel very strongly that in Malta we need to empower more women to strive and improve the status of society, and address issues like poverty, single mothers and domestic violence.
We must also expand opportunities to persons of a lesser fortune and care for the environment," she said. YWCA's Self Development programme focuses on basic education and vocational life skills training.
Courses offered are free of charge and are given by professional YWCA members and volunteer supporters. Ms Vicandi Plaza also pointed out that their mission is to give service to improve society and to work for persons who are facing social exclusion and difficulties in accessing the labour market.
