The Sunday Times has been redesigned from today with a fresher look in a bid to reflect evolving lifestyles and interests.

Both The Times and The Sunday Times, together with their respective sections and supplements, are being brought to readers in a new, forward-looking and streamlined format.

Conceived by Allied Newspapers' head of design Derek Fenech, in conjunction with the editorial teams and management, the 'new' newspaper seeks to further engage readers.

Research shows that readers have less free time and patience and this is why the newspapers must not resemble a maze, Mr Fenech said.

Throughout the paper, navigation remains a key element of the new design.

A natural progression of content was tied to this. The paper kicks off with national news, moving on to opinion pieces, international news, features, and finally the sports section with navigational touches of its own.

Photography was given more importance with the use of larger images and the introduction of infographics, creating a newspaper where the pictures work as much as the text, Mr Fenech said.

Page three of The Sunday Times' will now host a brief introduction to every section of the newspaper, including a five-day weather forecast, the lotto numbers and pharmacy information.

The Times will be launched in its new format tomorrow.
