A new seven-member council for the Institute of Maltese Journalists (IĠM) was recently elected during the institute's annual general meeting.
The three officials of the IĠM - chairman Malcolm Naudi, secretary Joe Vella and treasurer Mario Schiavone - were re-elected uncontested in their respective posts.
During the meeting, the members approved an amendment to the IĠM statute presented by member Carmel Bonello to assign specific posts to the four members of the institute's council.
In view of this amendment, Brandon Pisani was appointed education, continuous professional development and international affairs secretary; Julia Farrugia was appointed deputy treasurer responsible for sponsorships and fund-raising; Charles Flores was appointed co-ordinator for events and activities; and Charlot Zahra was appointed information secretary.
The new council has also co-opted Roderick Agius as member. Mr Agius will be co-ordinating the 18th edition of the Malta Journalism Awards.
The IĠM's 19th anniversary will be celebrated in November.
