Sliema beat Marsaxlokk and do Valletta a favour

Valletta took a giant step towards the premier league title today when Sliema beat second placed Marsaxlokk 1-0 at Ta'Qali.

The goal, by an acrobatic Ivan Woods in the first half, means Valletta stay five points clear of Marsaxlokk and will seal it if they beat Birkirkara on Monday.

Maraxlokk were reduced to 10 men with the sending off of Peter Pullicino on the 39th minute.

Earlier Floriana beat Hamrun 2-1 with first half goals this afternoon. Bolasie opened the account for the greens just after the half hour and Monolito Micallef made them two from the spot in the 42nd minute.

Lee James Agius drew one back for Hamrun in the 55th minute but it was not enough to end Hamrun's run of eight winless games.
