Rise in price of fresh milk

Malta Dairy Products has increased the price of a one-litre milk carton by €0.07, up from €0.65 to €0.72, as from today.

The price of a litre of skimmed milk will also be €0.72. The small carton will sell for €0.41, an increase of €0.04 while the small carton of skimmed milk will sell for €0.44, also an increase of €0.04.

The price of yoghurts and fresh ricotta remain unchanged.

The company said the last six months have seen further significant increases in the global market prices of the raw materials used in the production of animal balanced feeds as well as record oil prices. Moreover, further price increases were also experienced in the other major prime cost components ranging from food ingredients to packaging material.

"As a consequence, Malta Dairy Products Ltd is again being faced with an enormous increase in its expense when purchasing these raw materials that it uses in the production of its fresh milk and other milk products," it said.

The company said it will continue to commit itself to keeping such increases as low as possible.

It is the second rise on the price in a matter of a few months. We cannot afford not to buy milk for our children; this is a must. UHM and GWU must speak up for us, this can't go on!
