MUT orders Mcast strike
The Malta Union of Teachers has ordered lecturing staff at Mcast to strike for two hours next Wednesday morning after a meeting to discuss a new collective agreement ended in failure.
The union said proposed revisions by Mcast were "unacceptable".
The union directed all lecturing staff at Mcast to strike between 8-10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Mr Camilleri can understand from my comment is that I wish that all gainfully occupied persons whatever their job title should have their rights as well as their obligations.
As for the collective agreement, no employer should take anyone for a ride by prolonging a collective agreement in such a manner - one year !!! - yes - it is really too much, you're right Mr Camilleri - so in this case a two hour strike could be considered as the last resort, in fact I think it is being prudent given the circumstances and the students involved. My apologies.
The article does not mention how long this dispute has been going on so one is easily misled to believe this is something recent.

Mr. Scerri, of couse, is not an MCAST Lecturer and does not care whether employees are treated as they should be. MUT is usually criticized as being too prudent and extremely patient. In fact it has shown restraint and a sense of responsibility all along. Discussions have now been going for almost a year and nothing materialized. Lecturers at MCAST now welcome MUT's decision of strike action as they have been taken for a ride for quite some time now.

A strike should be considered as the last resort during an industrial dispute.
I'm so sorry but this little article cries out for some comments .
Can MUT give a guarantee that all lecturing staff in all Govt educational facilities including MCAST, Junior college , and University clock in and out ?
Is there a system where Lecturing staff, like all other employees, have rules regarding absenting themselves from work?
Why are students , especially those attending university sometimes not given advice when lectures are cancelled ?- Some faculties do it but some do not always do it.
How many times , if any , does MUT allocate education inspectors who , randomly and without preadvice, attend lectures with students to observe what teaching method is being carried out by lecturer?
A two hour strike will not solve anything other than waste two hours of the students precious education time.
