Michael Mifsud is one of two Coventry City players to be named in the Championship Team of the Week. Despite failing to end his goal drought in Coventry City's 5-1 rout of Colchester United last weekend, Mifsud still caught the eye with an electrifying performance on the right wing.

His contribution to what was potentially a crucial victory for relegation-troubled Coventry has been recognised by the Press Association who picked Mifsud in their Team of the Week alongside team-mate Elliott Ward.

Mifsud's pace and trickery posed a constant threat to Colchester on Saturday and procured two penalties for Coventry, both of which were converted by Ward.

The centre-half became the first City player to score twice from the 11-metre spot in one game since Gary McAllister achieved the same feat in a League Cup game against Blackpool in 1997.

Although Mifsud, who turned 27 last Thursday, has not found the net for Coventry since December, he is the club's leading scorer in the league with nine goals, one ahead of Leon Best. Mifsud, linked with a move to Italy's Empoli, is also on top of City's overall scoring charts with 16 nettings after hitting seven goals in cup competitions.

His lively showing against Colchester and his subsequent selection in the Team of the Week suggests that Mifsud is adapting to his new role as wide midfielder but the nippy forward is still desperate to rediscover his scoring touch.

According to reports in England, Mifsud and Zavon Hines wanted to take Coventry's second penalty in Saturday's come-from-behind success against Colchester but manager Chris Coleman insisted that, as the team's designated penalty-taker, the responsibility was Ward's.

"There was no debate - Elliott Ward was taking the penalty. He's the one that takes the penalties. Goal difference for us is so important," Coleman said after the game.

Coventry are fighting to avoid demotion to League One this season. The Sky Blues are 17th in the 24-team championship but they are only three points above the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jay Tabb has been voted Coventry City's Player of the Year by the club's supporters.

Tabb collected an impressive 84 per cent of the votes with Mifsud getting most of the rest. The Sky Blues' Young Player of the Year award has been won by Leon Best. The winning duo will be presented with their awards before Saturday's crucial match against Wolves at the Ricoh Arena.
