Local tennis

This year's San Michel tournament for teams at the Tennis Club Kordin has now reached its halfway stage.

There are 126 players in the six teams. The captains are Anna Buhagiar (A), Lonia Carabott (B), Marco Ricci (C), Joe Vella (D), Horace Portelli (E) and Clint Cassar (F).

At the end of the first round, only five points separate the top team from the bottom one.

Current standings: Team C 37 points; Team E 36; Team D 35; Team A 35; Team F 35; Team B 32.

Zebbug Tennis Club has just hosted two teams of five players each from a top tennis club in Sardegna. The visitors played against Maltese teams in a competition based on a Davis Cup format. One of the Zebbug Tennis Club teams took the honours after winning most of their matches.

The tournament director was David Attard. He was assisted by Antonello Siddi.
