Iraqi jailed for detention centre breakout

A 19 year old Iraqi man from Basra was this morning jailed for six months after he admitted escaping from a detention centre on May 10,2006

In another case, Justin Polidano, 23, was jailed for a month for breaching bail conditions. Police Inspector Anthony Portelli testified that various police informers had seen him out. At one time he was seen driving his Mercedes.

Justin Polidano’s father, Joseph, said he had been with his son in the case mentioned by the police. He had been taking his son to a health centre because he gall bladder stones.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera jailed Mr Polidano for a month. He also lost €5,800 which had been imposed as a personal guarantee and deposit as part of the bail conditions.
