The Representation of the European Commission in Malta, in collaboration with the Portuguese Embassy, will, tomorrow, present the Portuguese film Capit&atidle;es De Abril (April Captains) as part of the 10th European Film Festival.

The plot revolves around the military coup which took place in Portugal on April 25, 1974 and which brought down the dictatorial regime that had been in power for decades.

As soon as the coup is announced, the people take to the streets and upon handing out carnations to the soldiers, a girl provides the theme for the name of the movement: The Carnation Revolution.

Produced in 2000, Capit&atidle;es De Abril obtained positive reviews worldwide and went on to win various national and international awards.

Capit&atidle;es De Abril was considered an excellent directorial debut for Portuguese actress Maria de Medeiros (Henry and June, Pulp Fiction), who also stars in the film.

Capit&atidle;es De Abril will be screened at the St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity in Valletta at 8.30 p.m.
