The popular Amitex travel fair organised by Air Malta was officially inaugurated today by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech. It remains open till April 28.

In a speech Mr Fenech praised Air Malta on its 35th anniversary, saying they had been years of commitment and contribution to the growth of Malta’s economy and Malta’s international profile.

He also observed that according to official figures the number of outgoing tourists was growing fast, reflecting the better economic times that Malta was enjoying thanks to government’s success in attracting record levels of foreign and local investment.

Air Malta Chairman Lawrence Zammit quoted statistics that show that Air Malta increased the number of passengers carried by 7% last. He stressed that air transport connectivity which a full service carrier like Air Malta provided, was crucial for the economic development of Malta and for the Maltese traveller.

He defined the Amitex travel exhibition as the Mecca for the Maltese travelling public and called on the local public to visit the fair over the coming days to experience what it has to offer, in terms of both education and entertainment.
