A Nigerian national, together with another man of Nigerian origin, were yesterday remanded in custody after they pleaded guilty to conspiring to import heroin.

Augustine Elechuku Onuchukwu, 45, from Nigeria but residing in the US, and Efosa Efionayi, 24, also of Nigeria yesterday pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Anthony Vella to conspiring to import the drug.

Mr Efionayi pleaded not guilty to importing and being in possession of the drug.

Mr Onuchukwu pleaded not guilty to being an accomplice with Mr Efionayi.

The court heard that the two had been arrested on Monday at the airport. Police Inspector Norbert Ciappara prosecuted.

Lawyer Anthony Cutajar appeared as legal aid to the men.
