Finance, Economy and Investment Minister Tonio Fenech yesterday announced the participation of a local business delegation at the Zaragoza International Exposition (Expo) in Spain.

The expo, to be held between June 14 and September 14, will focus on Water And Sustainable Development.

Participating in the expo, which is expected to attract eight million visitors, will be 106 countries and 19 international and regional organisations.

Mr Fenech said the event is an important opportunity for local businesses since Spain has become an international hub which has grown into the ninth largest world economy. It enjoys a privileged position to access the key markets of southern Europe and Latin America.

Spain is the eighth largest investor in the world and has become a significant source of foreign direct investment for Malta with companies such as Medichem, Combino Pharma and Crystal Pharma. These companies, all of which operate in the pharmaceutical sector, have already invested over €30 million (Lm12.88 million) in the Maltese economy.
