Three injured in road accidents
Two drivers and a passenger were injured in two separate traffic accidents in Floriana and on the Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq Coast Road on Sunday evening.
The first accident occurred at about 9.15 p.m. when an 18-year-old driver from Żurrieq was driving a Hyundai Accent in National Road, Floriana.
The police said the driver lost control of the car as he drove past Portes des Bombes and crashed into a tree.
An ambulance took the driver and a 17-year-old passenger to Mater Dei Hospital where they were found to be suffering from serious injuries but are not in a critical condition.
The car was extensively damaged by the impact.
The other crash occurred a few minutes later when a 20-year-old man from Birkirkara lost control of the Volkswagen Golf he was driving on the Coast Road and ended up in a field on the side of the road after hitting a low wall.
The police said that the driver suffered only slight injuries although his car was badly damaged.

I would like to know how the casualties are after the road traffic accident in the early hours of saturday morning. I was one of the first people on scene and gave first aid to the driver and front seat passenger, both of which had compromised airways. There were plenty of other people around the vehicles, simple first-aid was required. I am a firefighter of twenty years experience and I was very disappointed, even when I called for assistance, only one person stepped forward...But with five people in the car, that was not enough.

With an increase of cars on the roads, maybe further traffic police patrols and speed cameras should be introduced to try and stop so many road accidents occurring.
