Hunters complain over e-mail petition

The hunters’ federation has complained over an e-mail which it said is urging people to vote against spring hunting on a timesofmalta.com poll.

The e-mail which the federation described as “hate mail” and was reproduced in a press release, states: The Times Online has a poll regarding whether the Maltese Government should open the Spring hunting season. Please click on http://www.timesofmalta.com/ and vote to keep it closed if you would like to stop or reduce hunting in Malta. The Kaccaturi are activating all their members to vote to open the season and they are winning.

“Since yesterday, the gap has closed, so can you vote and possibly pass this email around to anyone you may know who is interested in getting our countryside back in spring and stopping this illegal slaughter of migratory birds.”

This, the federation said, was how some 'patriotic' Maltese citizens had been gullibly led to believe that their supposedly fellow Maltese, rural Maltese land owners, should be thrown-off their property.

“The Federation for Hunting & Conservation - Malta (FKNK) yet again warns BirdLife (Malta) & Co. that no Turk, no-one hailing from Bermuda, none other coming from any country around the world, and no Maltese has any right to claim any sort of possession, nor interfere or molest with the liberty that Maltese rural land owners have the right to enjoy on their private Maltese properties.”

How pureile and xenophobic to keep harping on about "no Turk, no-one hailing from Bermuda, none other coming from any country around the world, and no Maltese has any right to claim any sort of possession, nor interfere or molest with the liberty that Maltese rural land owners have the right to enjoy on their private Maltese properties.”
Sorry guys, if you think that birds that have bred in other countries suddenly become yours just before they fly over your shotgun, then you are selfish. And secondly other citizens have a right to enjoy the Maltese countryside and all the creatures that live in it and by killing then your are depriving the rest of us the right to enjoy our rightful heritage. And lastly, if you can't cope with an on-line poll, then the FKNK are unable to cope with a normal democratic society so give up on your current leaders and elect a more reasonable bunch who will stop digging you deeper and deeper into unwinnable positions.

Fluer Hili,

Just for your information, the ones who sent those messages regarding the protest, were arrigned in court the following days. What will happen to these people who are sending the e-mails to foreingers to vote against spring hunting? Surely enough, if they are not hunter/trappers, NOTHING WILL HAPPEN.

Such cases happen every now and then....for example, when Birdlife's members cars were vandalized, all newspapers have emphasised the case....on the other hand, when the car of an FKNK's member was vandalized, we barely heard about it....

Irrispectively of what Europe decides, please set a date for a national referendum and let the Maltese vote for its future. This referendum should include both seasons and not just spring hunting.

If this is hate mail, what was an SMS asking hunters to go out to protest with their shotguns????

I must say hunters turn everything to their own advantage. Grow up it is a poll nothing more nothing less.Times Of Malta held more than one controversial polls but it must be the hunters to complain.

Just hold a referendum - whoever loses - foots the bill

For heaven's sake, this is just an online poll with no bearing whatsoever on decision makers!!! Hate-mail?? do these guys have a dictionary?

there is nothing wrong in the email which is urging individuals to vote against spring hunting on the timesofmalta poll. I do not consider this mail as a hate mail but an appeal. We know the tactics of the hunters if you do not agree with what we say you are against us. Everyone has the right to say whatever he likes if he is within the law. Such comments by the hunters can be considered as interference with the freedom of speech. If you feel that you want to comment on this issue you have the right to do so.

This not to mention the appeals made by BLM and their supporters to foreign clubs to vote in this poll. Shouldn`t we limit something national to a national level ?
If we were to let other countries vote in such polls how on earth are we reflecting the opinion of the Nation. We are just a small country and a small burst from any other country can blow up the whole thing.

I wonder whether, after this poll is closed, the Times of Malta could let us know how many votes originated from overseas. Locally, until this AND other posts started to circulate, the results were very different.....around 54% in favour, as I recall. So much for Birdlife's false claims. Not enough gullible locals? Then find them elsewhere!!

I also wonder how many of the overseas "No" faction even know where Malta is, much less the facts and truths about the issue.

Grow up. A petition is considered as being hate mail!

I don't see any name-calling or obscenities in the email - to see that kind of hate, all one needs to do is to log on to the federation's website and just read a few posts. One could also see hunters urging other hunters to vote at least once daily and also to use as many different connections to get as many votes in as possible.

Poll
