Lourdes Home report
Theodore Sammut was right (An Admirable Bishop, April 14). Gozo Bishop Mario Grech was correct in showing courage when setting up another commission to investigate allegations of abuse at Lourdes Home.
He is not, however, right when he says that the commission thoroughly investigated the allegations until the whole truth came out. In fact the commission's report has not been made public and, therefore, the whole truth has not, come out - the report lies hidden somewhere.
It is not acceptable in this day and age that reports are made by commissions - who claim to thoroughly investigate - and such reports never see the light of day. Indeed, the only thing that can be said about this latest report is that it consigned to the dustbin of history the other report made by the first commission appointed by Bishop Nichol Cauchi. I presume that this commission also investigated thoroughly - but now it appears not so thoroughly.
It is no longer acceptable that the citizens of Malta are told that a commission has investigated this or that without having the report available to be scrutinised.
This applies to all commissions, government, Church or whatever.
Go on Bishop Grech - be brave and make the report public. It will enhance the reputation of the Church in this matter.

The comment made by Mr/Ms Agius is very interesting!
Maybe someone in the legal field reading these comments can say something about this....
Do the police have a right and/or duty to start a criminal investigation based on what we have heard and read through the media?

Shouldn't the police demand a copy of the report or, if it is not forthcoming, they start their own investigations on the basis of what is now in the public domain. Surely what the Bishop has said to have taken place and his own apology indicate that the possibility of criminal charges should be examined. Why doesn't the law apply to all in the same way?
