Mtarfa council formally dissolved

The Prime Minister today formally advised the President to dissolve Mtarfa council because it was unable to carry out its functions in terms of the Local Councils Act.

The government explained that the situation had persisted for months and attempts by the Director of Local Government to remedy the situation had failed.

A Management Committee is being set up until a fresh election is held.

The Prime Minister warned that similar situations in other councils would not be tolerated.
