Man accused of €3,000 fraud

A man from St. Lucia was today remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty to defrauding a man out of €3,089 (Lm1, 325).

Magistrate Edwina Grima heard Michael Portelli, 24, plead not guilty to stealing a wallet, bank book and an HSBC chequebook from an Isuzu car that was parked in Sta Lucia last Friday.

He also pleaded not guilty to using the chequebook and handling stolen property.

Police Inspector Alexander Grech prosecuted.

Lawyers Stephen Tonna Lowell and Joseph Giglio appeared fro the defendant.
