David Borg Cardona of Marsascala (April 11) in taking me to task for my stand on illegal hunting was in agreement with one of his peers in stating that "hunting has now evolved into a regulated form..." and went on to say "the FKNK will also revoke membership of any member found guilty of serious hunting contraventions".
Can he then inform me, and the readers, how many "rogue" hunters and trappers arrested on Monday, April 11 - the "unlucky" few caught out from the many who took to the countryside to blast migrating birds out of the sky - have had their membership revoked? After all, hunting when the season is closed is a serious contravention. None, judging by the words of the FKNK's own PRO, Joe Perici Calascione, who was quoted in The Times as saying: "We condemn it (illegal hunting), but at this stage, I will not comment nor condemn those who are going out hunting, even if it is true".
So there we have it, right from the horse's mouth: FKNK condemns illegal hunting but will not condemn illegal hunters. His statement is as contradictory as having "Conservationists" as part of the federation's title.
