For the third consecutive year, the Għaqda Poeti Maltin organised a poetry evening at the Franciscan Cultural Centre in Floriana.

In his introductory speech, the president of the Għaqda, Alfred Massa, referred to the congress held last year in Richmond (USA) with the theme - Relgious Poetry Today. Although this was organised by the Presbyterial Church, it was heavily attended by many poets professing different religions including many Catholics.

During the evening poems were read out in Maltese, English and Italian, by most of those present. Patrick Sammut read out a short study about St Francis of Assisi in Dante's Divina Commedia, quoting passages from Canto XI of the Paradiso, as translated into Maltese by Alfred Palma.

The evening was animated by Charles Magro, who made reflections on poetry.

Guitarist and singer Walter Micallef entertained those present.

Various speeches were delivered, after which refreshments were served.
