First United Insurance Group recently presented a €2,000 donation to Rudolf Ragonesi, executive director of Gaia Foundation and to Mark Sultana, general manger of Ir-Razzett tal-Ħbiberija.
The shared money will be used for managing areas of ecological importance in Malta and for the upkeep of the Razzett complex which is used for recreation and therapy.
The money was raised through the voluntary deduction from the monthly pay-cheques of First United's employees and directors.
"One of the functions of the group's staff welfare committee is to nominate the recipients of the money collected. This year Ir-Razzett tal-Ħbiberija and Gaia Foundation won the favour of most of us", commented Salvino Mifsud Bonnici, chairman of First United Insurance Brokers.
Dr Ragonesi said that Project Gaia is based upon integrated coastal zone management in the Maltese islands. "We are a non-profit, non-government organisation set up almost four years ago to specialise in the field of environment management.
"The project is currently managing two areas of ecological importance namely at Għajn Tuffieħa and Ir-Ramla, Gozo", Dr Ragonesi said.
Mark Sultana said that the donation will go some way to meet the enormous costs Ir-Razzett tal-Ħbiberija needs every year to run the complex.
