Many have been writing about abortion, and about opinion surveys on the subject. Whatever the percentage was in favour or against its legalisation, the fact remains that as Catholics, we still have to conform with Holy Scripture, which clearly tells us that abortion goes against the Fifth Commandment.
Whatever type of pills or methods one may use to induce an abortion, the act remains a deliberate killing of an innocent human being. Therefore, the law forbidding this act is universally valid; it is valid as it obliges each and everyone, always and everywhere.
Human life must be respected and protected from conception. From conception a child has the right to life, so any kind of abortion will always be a criminal act and gravely contrary to moral law. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (para. 2322) imposes the canonical penalty of excommunication for such a crime against human life.
In view of this, those who sell or use abortifacient pills may face this penalty.
One may not be found out, of course, but one certainly cannot escape God's law. When one finally comes face to face with God, after one's life on earth ends, one still has to answer for one's actions.
