I think John Buchanan (The Sunday Times, April 13) must be referring to the Greek tanker Angel Gabriel which ran aground off Delimara Point on September 23, 1969. The ship was driven onto the rocks by gale force winds during a gregalata, a north-easterly wind.

If I remember correctly one crew member died during the rescue operation when he fell onto the rocks. I do not recall any pollution problems following this incident but I stand to be corrected.
