Qormi 1
St George's 0

A Carmel Formosa goal handed Jesmond Zerafa's side a useful victory in their chase of Premier League football next season. In a balanced encounter at the Tedesco Stadium, Formosa hit the winner 11 minutes from time.

Qormi did the early running and after seven minutes, a Joseph Farrugia first-time effort sailed over the bar. A Matthew Borg corner hit a post and Farrugia's grounder from outside the area was saved by Saints keeper Andrea Gatt.

Qormi continued to push forward. On 19 minutes it was Joseph Chetcuti who nearly beat Gatt but his shot brushed the wrong side of the bar.

Michael Woods's side started to played better midway through the half and Peter Anizoba was close to giving the Saints the lead but his volley was stopped in style by Matthew Farrugia.

On 40 minutes, Qormi's Clyde Camoin hit the woodwork with a shot following a good move by Michael Borg Olivier. At the other end, a Glenn Barry header was cleared off the line by Matthew Borg. Just before half-time, Borg Olivier was unlucky when his header hit the Saints' upright following a Kurt Zammit cross.

Qormi stepped up a gear after the break but were finding it difficult to penetrate the steady Saints' rearguard.

On the hour, Anizoba had a shot blocked by a Qormi defender and four minutes later, substitute Emerson Amaira was denied by the quick-thinking Paul Camilleri after a quick Saints attack.

Qormi were seeing more of the ball though and Farrugia had a powerful drive deflected for a corner. From Camoin's flag-kick, Formosa headed into the net what proved to be the winner.

On 81 minutes, Qormi should have made it 2-0 when Chetcuti's shot was somehow stopped by Gatt with Formosa failing to conclude from close range.

Anizoba almost shocked Qormi with a late equaliser but keeper Farrugia was alert to close him down and preserve his team's lead.

Dingli Swallows 6
Marsa 2

Dingli hammered another nail in Marsa's relegation coffin after handing them a second defeat in the space of four days. In midweek, Dingli reached the semi-finals of the KO competition for Division One teams at the expense of troubled Marsa.

Dingli couldn't have had a better start as they took the lead after only three minutes through Uchanna Anywanna. Marsa hit back and drew level in the 19th minute thanks to a Jose Borg goal following a melee inside the Dingli area.

But, Dingli started to dictate matters again and went in front again on 35 minutes. Anywanna did well to release Jeremy Agius who placed inside the net with relative ease.

On 38 minutes Marsa suffered a setback when Joseph Achokwu was red-carded for a foul on Formosa.

However, before the break it was all-square again. Jason Cachia brought down Ivan Borg in the box, the referee gave a penalty and Warren Chircop scored from the spot - 2-2.

Ciappara put Dingli back in front soon after the restart and they made sure of the points on 56 minutes when Anywanna made it 4-2 after a quick one-two with Kurt Formosa.

On the hour, the Marsa rearguard failed to clear and Anywanna profited to score goal no.5 for Dingli.

Six minutes from time a neat one-two between Agius and Ciappara was finished off by the latter. Formosa marred his day in stoppage time when he was sent off for a foul.
