The track and field season in Malta is fast approaching its apex. Last weekend's aggregate meeting saw some impressive achievements even though no records were established.

New marks are set to be established in the coming weeks though with a meet practically every weekend including the Malta International.

Fine results were registered in the long jump, when Rachid Chouhal cleared 7.63m, having previously completed a 200m sprint in 22.36 secs.

A well-contested event was the 400m race where Nikolai Portelli clocked 50.57 seconds, just ahead of Mario Debono.

In women's events, Stephanie Alden, fresh from her record triple jump at Barking, fell centimetres short of the 11.09m cleared in the UK.

In sprints, Charlene Attard won the 100m in 12.05 and registered 25.39 in double that distance. The 400m was a clash of the Xuereb twins, with Martina finishing ahead in 57.18 secs.

One last chance of honing up to the International Meet will come about this afternoon with the Fifth Aggregate Meet, starting at 1.30 p.m.
