Two arraigned over alleged gas cylinders scam

Two men, Peter Borg from Birzebbugia and Maurizio Mangion from Paola, were arraigned in court early this afternoon and accused of commiting fraud and bottling gas without the necessary authority.

The two were arraigned following a police raid on a garage near Zabbar on Thursday when a quantity of gas cylinders was found.

The men, a gas distributor and his assistant, are alleged to have been tampering with gas cylinders, partly emptying them into other cylinders and then selling them for the full price.

The two pleaded not guilty.

They were granted bail against a personal guarantee of €3,000 each..
