SDM condemns abortion resolution

The SDM (Christian Democratic Students) yesterday condemned "without any reservations" the recent resolution approved by the Council of Europe which called for the decriminalisation of abortion in the member states.

SDM said it feels that it is indeed a dark day for the Council of Europe, an organisation set up to protect human liberties, when it calls for a resolution which calls for the destruction of future generations.

"SDM would like to applaud the EPP MPs for voting against this resolution and for having tried to stave off this debate which was carried out in a most unusual manner for an issue so serious.

"SDM would also like to show its full solidarity with the Maltese delegation which worked together in order to try and lobby against this resolution. It fills us with great courage to see that on an issue so important, political divisions were placed aside and the national interest prevailed," it said.

Ms Attard: You seem to think that your circle of friends constitutes the whole of Malta - well let me tell you - it does not. Kindly stop supposing and assuming and basing your conclusions on what the limited number of people you have spoken to think.
Regards whether men should have a say or not - well why shouldn't they? First we spend ages complaining because men aren't interested in 'what women want' and 'don't understand women' - then we exclude them when it best suits us. Like one man said, it takes two to tango and a baby is not just a product of its mother, but its father too.
I stand by what i have always said, that a decision so personal and emotional should remain so and be the choice of those involved. Not the choice of Ms Attard's and her friends. You are free to make your own choice in life MS Attard, now let me make mine.

Pro-life means that the individual wants to protect life from its beginning. It does not implicitly mean that one must also agree that life begins at conception.

Ms. Attard i thought that for a child to be conceived a man has to take part, so i guess i am entitled to voice my opinion, even if mine differs from yours. I notice that you did not tell Mr. Aquilina not to voice his. I wonder why. I wonder if you would still be of the same opinion in the case where a woman wants to abort and the man doesn't. Would he be patronising then?
It is useless condemning the eu, remember that the eu court is now the last legal resort, whether one likes it or not.
Ms. Cassar, it is not a matter of convenience or not, but being true to oneself

To be personally against abortion but not feel you should not impose your opinions is fine if the choice in question is between what flavour of ice cream to have with one's pancake! Hardly the irresponsible and selfish attitude expected when dealing with life and death. One either is pro-life or is not. You either are convinced or you are not. Some men on this Island really seem to think that our bodies are up for ransom here. If you don't mind. leave the choosing to the women Jeffery, you do sound rather patronising. All the women I talk to agree with me and I assume the majority of Maltese women think the same that abortion is not a choice or a right and no man is going to make me swallow that lie for convenience sake. Europe has no right imposing their values on our Island. It is disgusting how they feel they have the right to impose such things on our Society. This is the third siege of Malta I heard someoen once say, I think she was right. The bombs are words and treaties once again trying to break the Maltese will.

One cannot be against abortion yet not agree that it should be illegal. That makes you pro-choice. The pro-choice argument is always that they do not PERSONALLY agree with abrotion but don't feel they should tell others what to do. VERY CONVENIENT Mr Tabone.
Yes I agree with you we should therefore allow people to murder each other without anyone getting involved, of course, that does not mean i agree with murder, just to be clear now.

It is indeed a dark day - a dark day for the unborn person. We are constantly being pressured by EU and international bodies to protect all kinds of species, with the exclusion of a child before it is born.

So, if one kills a 3 month old foetus in the guise of an 'abortion', it is legally accepted. If one kills a newborn baby, he/she will be, rightly so, considered the most ruthless and heartless of all killers.

I support and commend all initiatiaves to safeguard the most fundamental of human rights - the right to life.

good for the SDM. But i think that this issue drags on due to the pro life playing with people's emotions. Whilst i do not agree with abortion neither do i agree with it being a criminal act, since in most european countries this is allowed. What happens if a woman goes to abort in the uk legally and upon arriving she is accused of a criminal act. How can an act be legal in a union state and illegal in another? What would be the legal ramifications? Can any unbiased lawyer enlighten us please?
