Man injured in fall
A 65-year-old man from Birkirkara was injured in a fall while working at a residence in Ġafar Street, Sliema, yesterday morning, the police said.
The man was carrying out renovation work when he lost his balance and fell a height of one storey.
He was given first aid on the spot by a medical team who arrived in an ambulance and was later taken to Mater Dei Hospital. The police said the injuries sustained by the man are not life threatening.
The police are investigating the circumstances of the accident, the fourth resulting from falls at places of work this month. One of the accidents resulted in a fatality.
A 56-year-old man from Qormi died some days after he was critically injured in a two-storey fall down a shaft while working in a house in Żabbar on April 8.
A 49-year-old man from Mellieħa was injured after he fell a height of just under a storey into an empty well in an area known as Tat-Tomna in his hometown on April 11.In yet another accident, a 62-year-old man from Kalkara received grievous injuries after he fell a height of three storeys while working on the façade of a building under construction in Gudja on Tuesday.
Occupational accidents have become regular occurrences.
Incidentally, the recent wave of such accidents coincides with the first anniversary of the Ħamrun tragedy when a fresh concrete roof collapsed and killed two workers, a Maltese foreman and a Croatian labourer.
