Conditional discharge

A man from Luqa was yesterday conditionally discharged for two years after he admitted to stealing over €3,000 from a shop in Marsa while another man and a teenager pleaded not guilty to the theft.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman heard Anthony Micallef plead guilty to stealing €3,317.19 (Lm1,423.68) in cash from Galea Pastizzeria at the industrial estate in Marsa, handling stolen property and causing more than €116.50 (Lm50) in damage to the property on February 21 at 2.30 p.m.

The other two men, André Camilleri, 25, also from Luqa and a 17-year-old Russian man residing in Żebbuġ - who cannot be named because he is a minor - pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court heard Mr Camilleri also plead not guilty to breaching the conditions of a previous release.

Police Inspector Frans Micallef prosecuted.

Lawyers Franco Debono and Charmaine Cherrett appeared for Mr Micallef.

Lawyer David Farrugia Sacco appeared for Mr Camilleri and the minor.
