April has, for the past 15 years now, become associated with Malta's biggest travel-related event of the year: Amitex, the Air Malta International Travel Exhibition. Thousands will be wending their way to the MFCC in Ta' Qali between Thursday and Sunday to see under one roof the best of what Malta's travel industry has to offer ‒ and be entertained in the process.

The whole country meets at Amitex: people working in the travel industry and people who want to catch up on the most beautiful destinations. The exhibition is expected to be not only the biggest ever this year but also the best as regards presentation.

"The move to MFCC, the largest conference and exhibition centre on the island, follows the recently signed strategic partnership agreement between Air Malta and the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre. This agreement aims to synergise the strengths of both organisations to promote Malta as a destination for Mice - the meetings, incentives, conference and events segment," a spokesman for Air Malta said.

"Through Amitex Air Malta provides a showcase for the local and foreign travel industry to present its services and travel opportunities to the Maltese travelling public.

"The fair offers a constructive ground for discussion between the travel trade and Air Malta to continue in their endeavours towards further improving on their outbound tourism products," he added.

Amitex is a clear reflection of the national airline's commitment towards the local market. The slogan this year is "Inspire your travel". And in the words of the spokesman: "Since there will be a host of travel opportunities by local and foreign exhibitors, one can be 'inspired' for his next holiday this summer."

The local and foreign travel operators which this year hail from several countries will be offering various travel options from the budget-class in Catania and Taormina to the tourist and luxury standards of the Greek Islands, Tunisia and Italy all geared specifically towards the Maltese market.

Air Malta's main stand promises to be not just modern and innovative, but also informative and entertaining, promoting this summer's schedule of destinations and flight bargains. The airline will be flying direct to more than 40 European and North African destinations with over 200 weekly flights. This summer's newest destinations are Leipzig and Innsbruck.

It should surprise no one that Leipzig has turned out to be the most dynamic of all the cities in the old East Germany.

And no building represents the new, forward-looking Leipzig more than the 1998-renovated railway station (Hauptbahnhof) to the northeast of the city centre. This imposing glass temple is not only Europe's second-largest passenger terminus but also serves a municipal focal point, housing in a three-floor mall countless shops, bars and restaurants. Another symbol of Leipzig in the 21st century is its 39,000-capacity football ground, the imaginatively remodelled Zentralstadion. Architects here had the bright idea of building a high-tech arena within the walls of the old bowl-like structure.

The tourism in Innsbruck has a lot to offer. The city tourism offers a centre of culture with an 800-year-old history. Innsbruck is known for its art treasures and famous for the "golden roof", the black man and the Imperial Hofburg.

Living history is connected with big names like Kaiser Maximilian I and Maria Theresia.

One of the airline's most sought-after products during the exhibition is the Flyaway tours brochure, which provides travellers with an insight into special offers and new destinations. This summer's edition carries a section with special offers.

Whether it's a city break, cruise or countryside holiday you're after, the brochure offers them all.

• The fair will be open from Thursday to Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 to 9 p.m.
