The San Antonio Spurs crushed the Utah Jazz 109-80 on Wednesday to secure the Western Conference third seed on the final day of the regular season.

Tony Parker had 24 points and 12 assists as last year's NBA champions ended the league campaign on a high note, setting up a first round play-off series against the sixth seeded Phoenix Suns.

The teams met in a thrilling second round match-up last season which the Spurs won in six games on their way to a fourth NBA title in nine seasons.

It was a tough, physical series that featured numerous controversial fouls and bad feelings between the clubs.

"It's an unbelievable way to start the play-offs but that's how it is," Phoenix coach Mike D'Antoni told reporters after the Suns beat Portland 100-91.
