Jeffrey Chetcuti was suspended four matches following his red card in Sliema's 2-1 defeat to Floriana in the FA Trophy QF last week.
The former Malta defender was sent off 12 minutes from the end of Sunday's game for what the match officials ruled to be a dangerous challenge on Floriana's Christian Caruana.
Referee Adrian Casha reached for the red card after consulting assistant referee Ingmar Spiteri who had raised the flag to signal the illegitimacy of Chetcuti's challenge which left Caruana with a blooded lip.
Chetcuti received a two-match ban for his foul and an additional two-match suspension for over-reacting to his sending-off.
As Sliema are out of the Trophy competition, Chetcuti will have to serve his suspension in the league and, provided the ban is not reduced on appeal, the veteran defender can only play in his side's final league match against Floriana.
