Youths take centre stage in Pentecost celebrations

The Archdiocese's Pastoral Secretariat is working with the Diocesan Youth Commission (KDŻ) in order to have youths as the main protagonists for this year's Pentecost vigil celebration.

Preparations are under way to ensure the participation of many young people and youth groups in the celebration.

The activities being planned include a night vigil in Marsa, a walk with the World Youth Day (WMD) Cross and icon and a Eucharistic celebration with the Archbishop.

The different activities will be targeted to a diverse audience and different groups.

The main celebrations will take place at Triq Victor Vassallo, in Attard.

Although the protagonists of this year's celebration will be young people, the event is still intended to reach all the Maltese population and all parishes will participate, the promoters said. Pentecost, which this year will be celebrated on May 11, is a feast of the universal Church that commemorates the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles 50 days after the Resurrection of Christ.

This year, Pope Benedict XVI is inviting all youths to reflect on the Holy Spirit. This also coincides with the XXIII World Youth Day taking place in Sydney, Australia in July.
