Stress on social issue

The Parliamentary Secretary for Public Dialogue and Consultation, Chris Said, yesterday encouraged the Civil Society Committee to take the initiative and discuss social issues over and above those referred to it by the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development.

In an introductory meeting with the committee, Dr Said asked the committee to ensure it included the environmental aspect in all of its discussions, pointing out that the environment was being given topmost priority by the government.

Dr Said told the members that the government had a long agenda of social themes, so the more active the committee was, the more it would be helping for the best decisions to be taken.

The government, he said, would soon be launching Meusac 2 within which discussions and consultations on everything that had to do with the European Union would be carried out.

The government wanted wide consultation on all EU-related topics and he invited the organisations within the committee to give their views on how they believed this should work and what structure it should have.
