Conditional discharge

A 31-year-old Georgian national was yesterday conditionally discharged after he admitted to stealing a belt form the Diesel clothes shop in Valletta.

Giorgi Chelidze, residing in Sliema, was conditionally discharged for two years but kept under arrest until he leaves Malta.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna heard that Mr Chelidze had stolen the €81 (Lm34.76) belt from the Merchants Street store at noon on Tuesday. Police Inspector Alfred Mallia prosecuted.

Lawyer Patrick Valentino appeared as legal aid to Mr Chelidze.
