Vote-counting is about to start at Naxxar counting hall in 12 casual elections being held to fill 12 parliamentary seats vacated by candidates elected from two electoral districts in the general elections.
The candidates elected from two districts and the seats they will vacate are: for the PN, Lawrence Gonzi (second district), Tonio Borg (11th), Tonio Fenech (twelfth), Robert Arrigo (ninth), Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando (seventh) and Dolores Cristina (tenth) and for the MLP, Alfred Sant (eighth), Michael Falzon (second), Helena Dalli (third), George Vella (fifth), Charles Mangion (sixth) and Evarist Bartolo (tenth).
A total of 62 nominations have been submitted for the elections. Since there are some candidates seeking election from more than one casual election, the Electoral Commission will decide, through a ballot, the district votes to be counted first.
The casual elections will conclude the composition of Parliament which, for the coming legislature, will be composed of 69 members.
