The Malta Canoe Federation is in a better position to conduct their Development Programme and make local events more competitive following the acquisition of 14 racing kayaks, donated by the Hungarian Canoe Federation.
The kayaks arrived in Malta a few days ago. Apart from the eight Olympic kayaks and six others for beginners, other equipment was also handed over to the local federation by the Hungarians.
At present, Hungarian national trainer Tibor Virag is coaching elite canoeist Chris Camilleri. The latter, along with Peter Borg Costanzi and Joe Borg, contributed to help the Maltese federation reach an agreement with their Hungarian counterparts on the kayak sponsorship.
The federation said in a statement that the kayaks will be used for the national sprint championship with Camilleri and Matthew Schembri among the main protagonists in the competition.
Nicki Borg Costanzi will also en-hance his marathon racing experience with the use of the newly-acquired kayaks, the statement added.
